I think that UWT is a really great campus because we are situated in the heart of downtown. You have your classrooms right next to a business, to a cupcake shop, to a sandwich shop. And then across the street, you have the history museum, Union Station, the art museum. It's a great entry into what Tacoma is.
I'm a resident of Court 17, which is also the student housing of UW Tacoma students. Court 17 also has a lot of events that they're hosting over the academic school year. I know one that they just recently had was the ice cream social, which is a great opportunity for Court 17 residents to socialize with other people make friends.
UWT as a commuter campus has to be really intentional about what we offer students outside of the classroom. The UW team partnered with YMCA to create the university why center so that students can work out and hang out on campus. We also have study abroad options to the Office of Global Affairs so that students can get experience globally and not just here at UWT. UWT being in the heart of the downtown corridor, we know that transportation is an issue. And so we've taken steps to make sure that we're being intentional about the options that we're giving students. So as part of the fees that you pay as a student of UWT, it includes the U Pass, and the U Pass is essentially a card that you can use on any public transit system, here in Tacoma, or in the South Sound.
UWT really try to preserve the history of what was here before these all these buildings were built. I mean, really, it keeps everyone educated like "hey, this was here before this became a place of education." And you know, at least to me, it kind of in a way keeps the beauty on campus too. This is downtown Tacoma makes you appreciate Tacoma more.
